Rationale
Understanding and using statistical methods have become a must today in scientific research and decision making. More, with the development of computer science and IT, statistics has evolved and developed more powerful and complex methods to deal with so complex data. The challenge nowadays is not about data collection strategies but rather how to analyse and make the available data informative. Moreover, due to the lack of good capacity in statistical analyses, some researchers fail in valuing optimally the data that they struggle to gather. The Laboratory of Biomathematics and Forest Estimations (LABEF, Laboratoire de Biomathématiques et d’Estimations Forestières), in line with its aim of “Raising awareness of the importance of Biomathematics, particularly Statistics in Biological Sciences” is offering for the academic year 2016-2017 five training modules, each lasting four days, in order to boost the capacity of graduate students, academic researchers and professionals in data analysis using the free software R. The Lab also takes advantage of offering a special module in GIS and remote sensing focusing on species distribution models, a relatively recent, popular and fast dynamic scientific domain.
Below are the five modules:
Module 1: Introduction to R click to learn more
Module 2: Linear mixed effect models: applications in R click to learn more
Module 3: Longitudinal data analysis in R click to learn more
Module 4: Optimization with response surface and mixture designs: applications in R click to learn more
Module 5: Forest modelling, GIS and remote sensing click to learn more
How the modules are organized?
Each module consists of four days [Monday-Tuesday-Thursday-Friday] of 4 hours courses and practices (20 min for break). Participants will be taught on how to report the analyses for scientific articles and reports.
How to participate?
Participant could register for any module but no later than two weeks prior to the starting of that module. Registration is done by sending the application form (click here to download) to contact.labef@gmail.com or filling the online registration form (available here).
How much does it cost?
Each module costs 25000 FCFA (45 USD), payable at late one week before the starting of the module.
Where to pay the fees?
Secretary office of LABEF, Tel: 67 80 86 30 / 96 17 27 29
How many places are available?
The maximum number of available places per module is 50.
